FLIPPING THE BIRD AT BAD ROBOT DRIVERS WON’T BE QUITE AS SATISFYING

Engineers at Volkswagen in Germany have created the world’s first completely automatic car which is able to drive itself around an obstacle course at up to 240 kilometres per per hour (150 mph). The VW GTi model includes electronics which use radar and laser sensors to read the road and sends details to the onboard satellite navigation system which can track the car’s movements to within one inch. On the race track near Volkswagen’s headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany, the car was able to outperform human engineers around an obstacle course, accelerating, braking, and steering itself through the course at full power, sometimes reaching speeds up to 240 kmh.
