YOUR PET’S STOMACH IS A MONEY PIT
As much as you love your pet I bet you love your money a little bit more, which is why you should know that if you buy “gourmet” treats for your dog or cat your are getting supremely ripped off. An investigation carried out by Urban Animal magazine found animal treats are selling for insane amounts, sometimes up to $210 per kilogram. And no, that is not for choice cuts of prime meat, but useless chunks of meat that humans would never eat. As an example, a packet of three pig ears weighing 50 grams sells for $5.49. That’s over $100 per kilogram. Lamb ears are almost as expensive, and pig snouts sell for $3.15 for a 15-gram pack, which works out to $210 per kilogram. Even the relatively inexpensive treats are actually outrageously overpriced. The report found that dried fish treats for cats cost about $33 per kilogram, which means you would save money if your fed your cat fresh king prawns. (Smh.com.au)
