A British professor claims to have invented a program which will be the first step in deciphering an alien language if we ever meet any extraterrestrials. The software would compare the new language to the patterns of 60 human languages in order to begin the deciphering and then break down the language into words and sentences and then nouns and verbs. And by the time he figures it out the entire planet will have been vapourized. (The Telegraph)
