After two decades of studying the flying skills of houseflies and fruit flies Professor Michael Dickinson of the California Institute of Technology has revealed his secret for successfully swatting a fly. “It is best not to swat at the fly’s starting position,” he advises. “But rather to aim a bit forward of that to anticipate where the fly is going to jump when it first sees your swatter.” Thanks for the hot tip, professor!
